Contact Lenses and Allergies
Don't let the changing of the seasons catch your eyes by surprise. Different conditions call for different routines to keep your contact lenses comfortable and your eyes feeling great.
As you trade in your ski boots for sandals and back again, here are some things to keep in mind:
Spring
Contact lenses and allergies can be difficult to handle. Seasonal allergies often cause red, itchy and swollen eyes, and wearing contact lenses can make these symptoms even worse.
There are a variety of eye drops, both prescription and over-the-counter, that may be able to help with your allergy symptoms. Alcon has developed a prescription eye drop for once-a-day relief from itchy allergy eyes. For more information, visit pataday.com.
If you use eye drops to relieve your eye allergies, remember that you must take out your contacts before applying the drops. Then, you should wait at least 10 minutes before you reinsert your lenses.
Summer
Warmer weather often means it's time to hang out by the pool or at the beach. If you do, make sure to wear UV-blocking sunglasses to protect your eyes. And, if you choose to go swimming, always remove your contact lenses first.
If you happen to get chlorine or sunscreen in your eyes while wearing contact lenses, never use tap water to flush your eyes, as it can cause infection. Instead, take out your contact lenses and use a sterile eye drop or multi-purpose solution to wash out your eyes. Make sure to clean and disinfect your lenses before you reinsert them.
Remember, contact lenses and allergies can still be a problem in the summer, so make sure to keep the previous tips in mind.
Fall and Winter
Whether you are taking in the colors of autumn or knee-deep in winter fun, this time of year can bring challenges for your contact lenses. If high winds and heated buildings make your eyes dry and uncomfortable, moisten your contact lenses with a rewetting drop like OPTI-FREE® RepleniSH® Rewetting Drops.
Whatever the season, OPTI-FREE® RepleniSH® contact solution is there so your lenses stay fresh and comfortable all year round.
